Rainbow

I finished this one just in time to make my One Monthly Goal with Elm Street Quilts.  I didn't get a chance to photograph during daylight, so these pictures on the spare bed will have to do for now.

A couple of years ago, I bought a Kona New Bright Palette Jelly Roll when it was the daily deal at Missouri Star Quilt Company.  They showed a picture of a rainbow quilt that was a class/project on Creative Bug.  I LOVED it and bought the jelly roll.

I finally pieced the top over my winter break.  I did go to Creative Bug and subscribe so I could take the class, but it is not at all needed.  I was hoping for advice on paring down the jelly roll (promised in the course description) but she just kinda did it and didn't explain.  There are 30 strips in this.  I added two of my own because the roll had shockingly little purple in it.

The colors are: KONA Primrose, Salmon, Melon, Candy Pink, Azalea, Pomegranate, Poppy, Coral, Kumquat, School Bus, Sunny, Corn Yellow, Buttercup, Cactus, Chartreuse, Pear, Fern, Pistachio, Aloe, Candy Green, Bahama Blue, Peacock, Water, Blue Jay, Regatta, Lapis, Bright Periwinkle, Crocus, Violet, & Lupine.  The binding is Kona Titanium.

For the back, I used leftovers of some of my favorite fabrics. All could be considered novelty. The prints are from Wee Wonder by Sarah Jane (kids in trees), Critter Patch by Penguin & Fish (bunny rabbits), Jolly Tree Farm by The Henley Studio (trees on blue background), Make a Wish by Lewis & Irene (fairies & dandelions), and Far Far Away by Heather Ross (2 prints: unicorns and Princess & the Pea).  There is also another tree print that I don't know what it is.

This one is for me!  I frequently like an extra quilt on my at night, and I can't wait to see that rainbow goodness on my bed!

 Rainbow was my February One Monthly Goal (goal setter # 84).  It was also #3 on my list of Q1 goals for the globally hosted Finish Along.

February Bee Blocks

I forgot this year how short February is.  I've had all my blocks ready to go for a while now, but they will get mailed on the last day of the month.

Tammy from Stash Bee is making a baby quilt for a friend who is expecting.  The friend is a big Harry Potter fan and is clearly hoping for a Baby Gryffindor, as her colors are maroon and gold.  I didn't have much in the way of novelty/kids fabrics in those colors, but one maroon is stars and the other has feathers, so I hope those will do.  This is a disappearing nine patch and I really like this particular layout. 

I also did a Stash Bee Hive Crash.  Allison in Hive 7 is an immigrant, and her turn came just days after the first executive order that blocked immigration.  She was feeling frustrating and asked for pink pussycat hat blocks (and offered her original block as an alternative for those who may not share her political views). My husband is an immigrant and Allison's comments really resonated with me, so I made a hat in protest and solidarity.

Sue is Queen Bee in Bee Inspired.  Sue asked for an Inside Addition block in medium or dark colors and she wants a rainbow.  I chose a deep green. I cut too many squares so I have some extra half square triangles to send along, too.

Savannah Bound

You guys, you guys, you guys, you guys!!!  I'M GOING TO QUILTCON EAST!! 

This is somewhat last minute and quite unexpected.  Last weekend, Irene, who is both the online Bees I am doing this year, posted in a closed facebook group asking if anyone is going to QuiltCon. I replied that I wished, but didn't realize until too late that it was half a day's drive from where I live. She sent me a personal message and asked if it was a time off issue or an accommodation issue.  I explained that I have a 3-year old, so it's a "how much solo parenting is it really reasonable to expect Dad to do" issue.  She told me that she had an extra bed at her accommodation.

Not only that, but she & her two traveling companions attend an annual retreat with someone I know through my profession; we attended a 4-day intensive leadership retreat 2 years ago. We discovered we are both crafters one morning at breakfast and started an informal craft gathering in the evenings--she does cross stitch, I had a sewing project, and we found a few knitters to pull in. So even though I do not know any of these three women, they all know someone I know and are comfortable including me in their group!

Husband is ridiculously supportive and said I should go!  So I have day passes for Friday and Saturday!!!!!!  I can not tell you how excited I am!  Anyone coming?  I'm hoping to meet some of my online friends!

February OMG: Rainbow

I really like the monthly linkup One Monthly Goal (or OMG) now hosted by Elm Street Quilts. For February, I want to finish a quilt that is all for me!
