PhD in 2021

My friend Gail of Quilting Gail started a PhD program in 2018 to motivate herself and others to complete those Projects Half Done.  I've participated every year and will attempt PhD #4 in 2021.

I currently have a list of 10 started-but-not-finished projects.  I also have a *lot* of fabric.  Some of it is earmarked for specific projects that I haven't actually started, some is not, and some is scrap.   My overall goal is to get fabric out of tubs, bins, and drawers and into completed projects.  A PhD must include at least 12 completed projects.  So my goals for my PhD has two parts:

  • Complete at least 5 projects from my list of unfinished projects
  • The remaining projects must be from stuff I already own--kits, scraps, planned projects, new projects that use fabric I already own, anything counts as long as I'm using fabric that is already in the house.

Here is my list of the 10 that are started but not finished:

Bookshelf quilt

1

Magical Forest

2

Food themed picnic blanket

3

Lion Pillow

4

Patriotic Stars (2nd)

5

Smitten Kitten

6

Laura’s quilt

7

Dad’s place mats

8

Round Robin

9

Hearts Afire

10

  1. I'm enjoying reading these posts of those doing the PHDs. I'm not sure I could stick with it for the year, but you have a good plan ahead!

  3. I've always thought the "PHD" thing sounded like fun, but got hung up on the "list must include 12 unfinished projects" rule. I don't have near that many UFO/WIPs and if I started enough new projects just to have 12 on my list, nothing would get done at all except that I'd have a nervous breakdown and my children would gleefully have me committed... Good luck with your goals, and Happy New Year!

  4. Hi Emily!!! Thanks for joining in the PHD in 2021! We will get those UFOs done and out of the way ... as well as all that fabric that's waiting to be used!
    Happy Quilting, my friend! :-)

  6. It sounds like you have made a plan, so take it one stitch at a time! Enjoyed chatting with you on the "zoom retreat" yesterday and meeting your son. Love the story of his nickname! Mary/ https://Stitchinggrandma.wordpress.com//

  7. Seems we all do well starting, but don't always finish. I know I have a good number of UFOs. I'm working on one I started in 2014. I will finish it this year. It was nice to meet you at the Zoom Retreat. I was surprised with how much I got done even with talking with everyone!
